Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Learn about leading inclusively, overcoming your bias and seeing diversity grow, how to equitably hire and recruit, develop DEI partners and Allies through inclusion, and so much more. In today’s world, successful social-impact leaders must value innovation and efficiency while at the same time fostering an inclusive work environment that ensures every member of our workforce is able to contribute fully to the shared enterprise. The Nonprofit Leadership Alliance is committed to making the world a better place for all people, and diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the very center of that work.

The mission of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance is to strengthen the social sector with a talented and prepared workforce. The Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) credential is the only national nonprofit credential preparing students (undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate) for careers in nonprofit management. Students who complete a leadership development program at one of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance’s affiliated colleges or universities are awarded the credential and gain access to a network of nonprofit career resources, including the CNP network.

Through the CNP program, the Alliance trains leaders to effectively, incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. We are developing tomorrow’s social-impact leaders, and with that privilege comes responsibility. Cultural Competency and Diversity is part of the course work and one of the eight core competencies required for every individual who earns the CNP credential. Although all of the eight core competencies of the CNP are critical to successful leadership, it is safe to say that none more so than cultural competency, which is really about the ability of leaders to operate successfully in a diverse community with many voices and interests.

The Alliance focuses on some of the above equity topics in our current programming which includes:

1) Elevate, a three-day virtual conference focused on equity and leadership. The next conference is scheduled for spring 2020.

2) The Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) Credential – The CNP credential includes a powerful combination of classroom learning and practical skill-building activities that bolster one’s ability to find a great nonprofit job and excel at it.
